Shelves, hooks, cabinets and rotating a few at a time. Practical ways to display a travel mug collection so each one still gets noticed.
Every collection hits the same point. The cupboard is full, a few are on the windowsill, and the ones at the back haven't been seen in years. Here's what actually works when you want them out and looking good.
A collection spread around the house reads as clutter. The same mugs together on one wall reads as a collection. If you can, give them one spot and let it grow from there.
A shelf about 12cm deep holds one mug with the design facing out. Deeper shelves tempt you to stack two rows, and the back row disappears. Floating shelves stacked up a wall, or a plate rail, show every single one.
A glass fronted cabinet keeps dust off and hands off. Good for the older or harder to find ones. Put a small LED strip along the top and the colours come alive at night.
Cup hooks under a shelf or along a rail turn your everyday mugs into part of the display. It also means the collection gets used, which is half the fun.
If you've run out of wall, keep a "this month" shelf of six or eight and swap them round. You'll look at each one properly again, and remember the trip behind it.
The thing nobody plans for is forgetting. Which trip was that one, who were you with, what was the weather like. Write it down once and it stays with the mug for good. That's the part a shelf can't hold.
